Start up noise
« on: March 24, 2013, 04:44:38 pm »
I've been to veiw a mk5 gti today but I didnt buy it, anyways when I started it it had like a rattle noise just as the car started up. The noise was only there for a second or two, the salesman reckon all these cars make that noise on start up but he would say that. Just wanted to know is this normal or not so I know when I next go to veiw one. No the engine sounded fine when running, it was like a rattle or something loose as the car started up then it went just about right away after the engine started. It didn't sound like a noise that should be there to me also the car didn't struggle to start either so I dunno

Probably got a little wear on the hydraulic chain tensioner guides,  once oil pressures up normally it goes away, if it's very noisy then its either been stood ages or ready for replacing

Yeah then I would say Stevo is right, as this happens on cold starts...   :happy2:

So il put it down to what Stevo said, that's good to know what the noise most likely was.

Cheers
