You need to run Windows via an emulator such as virtual box or parallels.

I run mine via virtual box and it works perfectly.

Actually its better to run it using bootcamp as then you are as close to a true Windows environment as you can be on a Mac.

I use VCDS and BMW software on my Macbook and Macbook Pro in this way!

Virtual Box might allow me to run it under Linux aswell, I managed to get it working a few years ago in Linux using Wine with a serial cable but never managed to get USB cable working

It makes no difference. Using an emulator is more convenient too.

From the VCDS FAQs

Quote
Mac (Intel):
Reports from numerous users indicate that VCDS works perfectly on the latest Intel-based Macs when these run Windows XP natively using Boot Camp.    We've had a few reports that VCDS does not work with Windows Vista under Boot Camp.    Reports from people using Parallels are less favorable, most people who've tried this have not been able to get it to work at all, especially with Parallels builds lower than 3120.
The bottom line:
We do not consider any of these to be "Supported" platforms for VCDS.   If you can get VCDS to work on one of these platforms, great.   But if it doesn't work, please don't expect us to be able to help you.

Well mine works fine. I've done loads of data logging and fault finding... Not a single issue.

I've been using vcds for 3/4 years via virtual box

Thats great! However, you can expect less 'issues' and probably a more stable VCDS if you go the bootcamp method. I too have been using VCDS for 3/4 years with bootcamp with no single issue.

For a new user I would suggest using bootcamp as (although it is less convenient as it requires a reboot) it runs Windows natively.

It does compute, you just don't seem to comprehend what has been stated.

I actually said it was 'better' to use bootcamp not that it was the only method of getting VCDS to work in OSX.

I stand by that and perhaps you were lucky to have no issues but that does not mean that everyone should go out there and use an emulator because they will not have any issues, I bet they will! At the end  of the day it is up to whoever is using VCDS on a MAC to work out how they want to use it.

But I see your an expert on this subject so I will leave you to it  :notworthy: :notworthy:

Im just telling you that it makes no difference...  :happy2:

And I'm far from an expert.... just sharing my findings of running vcdd on a mac via an emulator.

Was just thinking how much hassle I'd have trying to get VCDS working on my Mac...totally forgot about Boot Camp! Cheers.
