Turbo whine/screech not whistle :(

I've just fitted a new CAI, I know your going to think this is all about the turbo whistle but it isn't a whistle it's a quite a pronouced Whine (screech but not very high pitched) at WOT... does this mean the turbo is dieing?

Which intake have u fitted? The sound that you get is very much determined by what make of intake you have fitted!

does it sound like this? specifically from 1.00 to 1.10...



If so, it's normal. Well, for a twintake anyway..not sure if other kits make the sound, but its caused by the same effect like if you were to blow air through a length of hose with an open end. A whoooooo sound  :happy2:

^^^ That's blow off sound...
This is at full WOT, lots of whistle but then whine - bearing / leak?

No I mean the 'whoooo' sound before the blowoff (1.00 to 1.02) which is caused by air moving through the pipework...maybe this is what he was hearing, but possibly louder in a single-cone kit?

Yeah, it does kinda sound like those 2 secs you described (thanks btw) but for much longer... it's over a few thousand RPM then dies off at later revs (starts at around 2.5kRPM till 4.5k @ WOT, then disappears) there was a good Volvo 850R video which did the same thing, but I can't find it.

It's a bit annoying tbh... I get all the intake and blow off sounds, had them on a few motors... but this just sounds wrong; self-destructive almost.

Tried to take a vid today, but you can't make the noise out... it happens everytime at WOT below 4k then stops... any ideas?

Tried refitting it, but it still makes this noise, anyone else experience the kettle boiling noise with their CAI?
