what are the recommended intervals for the cam belt to be changed? i know it got changed at 56k in 2010

IIRC 4 years or 60k.

Well based on what you said it will need doing in 2014 or @ 116k.

definatley getting it  :P will post pics later
im just about to order the cam follower to get that changed over straight away as i doubt its been done, should i replace the dv regardless even if there doesnt seem to be an issue ( just so i can order them at the same time)

At that millage I would definitely change the cam follower. The DV would probably be the version C so I reckon it will be fine but could get it changed for peace of mind.

The follower is more important as if that fails it will take other bits with it, whereas if the DV fails/leaks it will be just that part that needs changing.

thanks for all your advice everyone just got back it drives like a dream :grin: ive posted some pics in the correct forum
ive got the cam follower on order so that will be this weekends job
the oil is a little low just on the min mark but its still warm so may not be that bad, does annyone know which oil i need to get for in between services?

As mentioned already in this thread, change the Cam follower, DV (to Rev. G) and PCV, all as a precautionary measure. There all cheap and not a big ob to do. I'd also add changing the fuel filter to the list.

Congrats on your new car , TBH Ive had 2 Mk5 GTIs in the last 3 years and apart from the front wing rust that I got fixed for nowt on my 05 plate , Ive had no bother whatsoever!

is there anyway to tell if your wings are rotting from the inside out? i never got chance to check as it was dark. if there bubbleing on the outside under the paint will they get replaced?
