Anyone used Federal RSR 595 on Mk5 Chassis?
« on: March 31, 2013, 09:29:56 am »

Wondering what the wear rate is like.

I can get som more R1Rs but Sy rated the Federals in the Fabia (but thats probably quite a bit lighter?)

need 2 new semi slicks to do a track day.

Useful comments welcome  :happy2:

Beddie has them on his track wheels.

If you need 2 tyres to do a track day, i would suggest matching your existing pair, rather than running odd tyres (makes no sense to do that)

Will see if I can get hold of Beddie, cheers.

I have 2 R1R on the back with some tread left.  Was going to put them on the front and 2 new R1R on the back to match.

Just thought if the existing 2 aren't going to last long it would be a time to try something new, all beit would have mixed tyres for a trackday, maybe 2.

IMO... i would get 2 R1Rs. I wouldnt run mixed tyres anymore on the road... never mind the track.

Or take the hit and buy 4 RSRs, depending what I find out about the wear rate

Thats certainly an option.... However, as you have the luxury of a few sets of wheels, i would buy a good set of track tyres (think 888s or A048) and then a set of road tyres.... that way you wont be wasting track rubber on the road.

That's the plan...

Hankooks Ventus V12 are ordered for the Turinis for daily as they're good VFM and grip awesome in Alexs bus.

Then Semis for the TDs.  Just trying to keep if affordable so I can get on track sooner rather than later  :driver:

Why wouldn't you run mixed tyres on the road?

Because there is no need to  :happy2:

Matched tyres will always give the best results in terms grip balance

Mixed tyres on the road can manifest some alarming handling  :scared:

I had 2x Falkens and 2x F1 Assymetric at one point and it was shocking.  Used to squirm alot.  All the pressures were even

Speak to SteveP. I brought his TD with federal 595 and he said they hold up well (long lasting). The compound seems harder compare to r888 but i cant fault them at Lydden. Grip was awesome!

Quite cheap aswell!

Mike, I still have a set of 225/45 R17 595 RS-R on Denvers, 45 % of tread left. Today I'd go for Bridge RE070
or Yokohama AD08, but in the dry the Feds are still one step beyond regular street tyres. More sticky and
much stiffer sidewall.

The Federals are also mega in the rain as well as the dry

I was able to keep with a Mk2 Mountune Focus RS(JUST!!) which had Continental Sport Contact 5 tyres at an absolutely swamped Mallory Park Trackday on New Years Eve whilst running a set of WORN 595 RSRs, probably the wettest TD I have ever done by a long shot.  I  hadnt tried them in the rain before and even brought a spares of tyres with me just in case the worn 595s I had on were too skittish.

As it happened, I was blown over by how good they were.

As i said Mike.

The Federals have the same treadwear rating as the Toyo R1R so life span should be similar.
