Hit and run
« on: April 01, 2013, 09:48:15 pm »
Parked my car up while getting food with the misses; returned within an hour to find this...

It looks like a van or something heavy has given it a slow-speed wack. Pushed the car a bit as its shunted the drivers side alloys up against the curb too!

No details left and no witnesses to anything!

Had to get recovery as the was wheel rubbing and didn't want to move it.
Any idea how serious this could be?

Looks like the hub could be damaged. Only way to really tell is to get it jacked up and wheel taken off.

It's gone off to repair centre via insurance recovery so might find out more tomorrow.
I'm gutted! And will screw up future insurance for me!

Could hub/arm damage be an expensive repair?
I'm worried it could become an insurance write-off?

@ Ed: yeah, no luck it seems!
The previous issue got sorted with a brand new throttle body, haven't had any further issue on that front since (touch wood).

Looks like you need some front bumper, arch, wheel and a little sill work.

Could be hub / control arm / wishbone damage

Does the offside wheel mimick what we see in the photo of the nearside? :(

Even with all that, I very much doubt it's a write off mate. Sorry to hear about this, keep us posted.

Ouch! Were the wheels straight when that happened (not turned)?

It's only damage to the passenger side front corner.
Not really sure how it could have happened. Maybe they tried to squeeze through against oncoming traffic.

It's also badly scratched my drivers side alloys in the shunt - what are the chances of them getting refurbed through this?

damn sorry to hear that...

no reflectors on the front so I never park headlights facing traffic.... plus less engine stuff to the rear if you do get shunted...

hope it all works out mate

That sucks, Would it not be more cheaper long term to pay for it fixing yourself rather than going through insurance and getting put over barrel for future premiums because of losing your no claims?

@chowgar: good advice. I try not to park on any busy roads, especially at night.

Although I don't think having reflectors facing this guy would have helped - it was full daylight and they failed to see the car!

@andrew: straight wheels when parked. The hit shift the car about 2ft backwards and about 6" into the curb.

@stevie: I had to get it recovered so insurance had to get involved really, or do I still have an option to repair through someone else? Never had to deal with anything like this before!

It's actually illegal for the perpetrator not to report this...it's officially a hit and run incident. Get the cops involved and hopefully he'll get done.

@tortatuga: I thought so too, but as they have driven off I have no way of tracing the barstewards!
I informed police and am taking docs in tomorrow but don't think they really care as no one was hurt.
Street not covered by CCTV either; think there are cameras nearby but I doubt they'll check them for something as minor as this.
So angry - wish I'd stayed home today!
