It's threads such as this that, whilst unfortunate for you lot that live with this threat, makes me glad that I live where I do and don't have to worry about it.
The most I have to consider is remembering where I left my keys....

I'm with u on this, and I'm actually convinced I live in a $hithole  :signLOL:
Maybe they only target nice areas?

It's a hard thing when something you've worked hard for gets taken from you and then your set to loose thousands of pounds + the stress of the whole situation, family members worry, then the worry of it happening again etc etc

Why the hell shouldn't you have something nice if you work hard for it - should I have to drive around in something crap just in case it happens again.

As they say "until it happens to you"

When we are about 19/20 Myself and one of my mates once caught a car thief trying to get his mum's Escort RS Turbo (Series 1) door open (we just happened to be walking home after a night out on the tiles), we saw what he was doing and my mate walked past him and straight to his house and woke his dad up, I stopped and asked if he needed some help as I wanted a lift home

about 1 min later all hell broke loose as my my mates dad appeared, I swept the scrotes legs from under him and wrestled him to the floor, my mates dad then grabbed hold of him. Police turned up, the chap was looking pretty worse for wear , police asked what happened and as he had "Struggled" we had to restrain him and he got injured, police said "Fair enough" and took him away, he coughed to 37 car thefts at the station (Including my mates parents 1st series 1 RS Turbo which was stolen 4 months earlier!!!).

After that they kept the car at the farm in a barn where the farm dogs slept  :signLOL:

Luckily I live in a house share in a 3 and a half bedroom house with 3 cars. One of them leaves the keys for his car on the stairs..  :stupid: But I always hide mine out of habit.. normally hide them from myself in the morning.

My cars are garaged with a separate alarm on the garage , including internal sounders and external ones , and also including a very loud air driven one  - the cars inside the garage are also alarmed and fitted with immobilisers  .

We park the daily use cars in front of the garage doors and they are also alarmed , immobilised and have steering wheel metal cover locks on . The garage has intruder lights all round it .

Our house is also alarmed and we set the downstairs zone when in bed , and used to have a nice bulldog awaiting for them should they venture in ( sadly we lost her a year ago but are considering another in the near future )

Keys are always upstairs with me . Anyone getting in will set off the alarm and then all hell will break loose .

I am also considering CCTV , not sure what else you can do but hopefully any potential thieves will be put off by the sound of the alarm going off .

This happened to me 2 yrs back, broke in thru the cheap UPVC door,First thing they found was the keys and off they went with the pride and joy and my fecking golf clubs.
My security was sh*t to say the least but now I,ll be able to hear their efforts, make a cup of tea and ring the fuzz before they get in.

On another note, the car was empty of fuel (10 mile range remaining, lazy me),at the time the only white GTI in Doncaster and plod said they have an idea who did it....NEVER FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The van is restricted from moving off the drive with a security post and gates. Then too top it off the dog!! You really shouldn't have too go to these extremes thou should you.

U reckon these cars that are nicked and driven off with the keys stay in the UK or are shipped abroad?

Most are split down, generally you get more money and it's harder to trace (EG there's no way of proving what car a set of Recaros came out of for example) or shipped abroad in containers to order.

Mine had false plates and would probably have been sold on as that's what this particular piece of pikey sh*t had done with the others he had stolen, except they crashed it and abandoned it.

One of the cars he sold to a chap obviously flagged up as a dodgy motor. He then contacted the seller and arranged to buy another as he "liked" the one he had bought so much. He turned up and went for a test drive with said pikey held hostage with a shotgun until the Police appeared.  :congrats:

His minor misdemeanor was brushed under the carpet and the Police had the scrote that was responsible for the theft of over 40 cars.  :fighting: :fighting:

I'm obviously not a criminal mastermind, but how the hell do you sell a stolen car with false plates etc.....???
How do they get a logbook that states the cars number plate is correct etc....???
Surely only a muppet would part with money for a stolen car??
I can understand buying a £300 banger without doing the necessary checks, but not parting with the best part of £5K or above without checking it out thoroughly!!!

Im guessing they probably use the stolen cars to do more crimes, Hit and runs, getaway cars etc.

My mates house got broken into a few years ago while he was sleeping upstairs, his keys were downstairs, but his car was parked 2 roads away. He was obviously followed home as he lives in a total dead end area. Anyways, the car was stolen and when the car was recovered, his subwoofers had gone, and in the boot left behind was a baseball bat covered in blood!

This is east london by the way

I think these kind of comments illustrate how we would all feel. But you must remember that you can only use "reasonable force" ie if you take out a burglar with a bat, golf club etc he will sue you for assault and battery and/or GBH depending on what you do to him. If however, he is trying to stab you/smash your head in it is reasonable for you to use the required force to defend yourself.

In terms ot eh MK5 Golf as it is now getting older I would not have thought organised thieves would be too interested in them. If however, you have an RS3, M135i, or an R for example then take every precaution you can!
