Best thing to do with car keys at nighttime??
« on: April 01, 2013, 11:22:27 pm »
Recently I've been reading about break ins where the feckers are only after the car keys.  :fighting:

Is it just me being paranoid or does anyone else hide their car keys/house keys, wallet, mobile phone etc at nighttime, god forbid there's a burglary??

All my stuff lives in the bedroom at nighttime where only I can get it. My wife on the other hand says the car keys (and ONLY the car keys  ) should be left downstairs, out of sight but easy to find, so that once found by the feckers, they will leave without venturing further into the house.

As much as I'd hate my car nicked, I'd prefer them to steal it than wake up with someone at the bottom of the bed demanding the keys :signLOL:  Its all insured let them have it.

Not sure about this but my stuff also lives in the bedroom. The thinking is generally the feckers avoid confrontations so will take anything downstairs and not come upstairs.

But would be interesting to hear others views :happy2:

Bit of a can of worms and has been hotly debated on here a number of times.

I have a wife and two kids and rightly or wrongly I take all of my keys up with me at night. I don't see why I should make it easy for someone to take something my wife and I have worked very hard for. Yes my family are far more important than any hunk of metal but why should you just give in?

Chances are they do not want any confrontation whatsoever so if they don't find anything or are disturbed hopefully they will do one. If they do come upstairs I will have a treat waiting for them!  :fighting:

My keys stay with me at all times. Having been done once I want the opportunity to "discuss" if it's happening again.  :fighting: :fighting:

Best thing to do is install 2+ 500watt security lights on your drive, install a security post on your drive and alarm your house. Thiefs are opartunists, they will just look for an easier target

Had my keys fished out from the letterbox 7yrs ago when I had a Subaru...was a nightmare as we had to change all the locks in the house & the chippy I run...to make matters worse i saw my car the next night blasting past the shell garage as I was filling up my misses car..

I'm lucky if I can find my car keys when I want to go out so god knows what it would be like with 2 beefcakes threatening me with boiling hot water.  Luckily I have a 35kg Weimaraner that kind of likes to savage intruders of his house.  That said if your car is really wanted (and I'm talking high end Prestige stuff) they will do anything to get the car you only have to see some of the horrific stories on crime watch.

Mine sit on my bedside table at night. I've been in a situation where intruders broke into my house but weren't immediately able to find the keys, so they scarpered.

If anyone was to break in and come upstairs I'd give them my keys without question. It really doesn't figure in my psyche that a car is anything more than a possession, plain and simple. Compared to the harm and devestation that could be the result of a confrontation with an intruder it is worthless to me.

I hope no thieves read this thread and target people that have said where they hide them,  my mate had his house turned over from top to bottom to look for keys to his focus st that had a lot of money spent under the bonnet and they found them but left the rest of the cars.  Horrible people
