Just an echo from what someone else has mentioned.

Put as many deterrents in the way as possible. If you have a drive way put your car in it, close the gates, security post and lights, house alarm, close all inside doors making it harder to plan there route, close curtains so they cant spot your keys.

Its sad that you have to do this.

Hang a blank eBay fake VW flip key near the door, sure that would buy you enough time in all the commotion to get the Polis round as they fumble about thinking the battery has conked out on the remote.
