Deako's A3 Black Edition
« on: April 02, 2013, 02:16:08 pm »
Picked this up quite a while ago now, and with crap weather and no chance of cleaning it, i didnt bother taking any pics.

Having planned to spend a fair bit of time on it over Easter weekend I ended up really ill since last Wednesday, and only just about felt up to cleaning it yesterday. Not a typical Easter, cold, ill and freezing conditions for cleaning a car.

Anyway, in the end i spent 3 hours on it, gave it a thorough clean. Which it sorely needed. It does need some proper treatment, and will be booked into DMR at some stage. However, it does clean up ok.

Pics are in fading light, so apologies. Oh, and my freezing hands were numb and i didnt realise the thumb was in camera shot.

I took this one this morning when i was just leaving for work.

Only mod so far is: debadged rear end.

Future mods: Well, not much. Its job is to commute and get 600 miles to a tank when we move house. I can see it will most likely need cleaning lots. RNS-e is a must. The standard Concert stereo is rubbish, even though it has the full Bose setup. Also a wheel refurb will be on the cards at some stage.

Apart from that, its just going to be a motorway chugger. Planning to keep it for between 3-5 years, so estimating it to cover approx 60-100k in that time.

At last Luke  :happy2:

Good looking motor, another phantom black
Don't know why I didn't go for DSG myself but I'm getting on quite well with the 6MT.

Cheers all.

Pete, yeah the DSG box really suits the TDI. I've got an issue or two with it at the moment, but want to perform a DSG basic setting reset before I pursue it as a warranty issue.

If I start the car and stick it straight in reverse and try to pull off the drive, it feels like its going nowhere until I depress the pedal significantly and then it surges.

DSG issues seem to plague me, all 4x cars I've had with DSG have had some issues.  :signLOL:

:(

That's a PITA. Funny you say that, mate down the roads parents have had two brand new A3 1.6TDI's replacements because the DSG (or S-Tronic, whatever it is) was faulty on theirs consecutively. They've had three different shades of blue now too

Did you renew the Audi used car warranty on yours?

No I haven't, as it wasn't audi approved used and I brought through work. Due to that, I get a comprehensive 12 month warranty for free. At the end of the day, if DSG is an issue, and they won't fix it, they will have to have it back off me.  :signLOL:

How's it comparing to the 123d ( besides the back problems :signLOL:) assuming mpg is up a fair bit.

Back problems all ok now!!  :happy2:

It's slower, not as fun. But way more comfortable and much more efficient.

Glad to see an RNS-E on your list  :happy2: For me it's a solid unit, the only thing it lacks from the 510 is the touch screen ability but the software and twist-stick is good enough.

Cup holders are a nightmare at the mo' as if you buy two Costas of any size, you're fu**ed. As I found out lately, as did my passenger seat.
Audi either promote Red Bull drinking (which the further back cup holder is only big enough for) or it's a serious oversight.

Need to wire my Aux in to the RNS-E too which I expect is somewhere on your list?

Nice bud. I do like the A3s.. they are basically Mk5s but I think inside they are just a bit nicer... Up until the Mk7 platform, where it seems that the Golf has gotten the nicer interior, but I digress.

Any plans to map it up (the engines respond very nicely to a basic remap), both the engine and the DSG?
Your MPG will go up as well..  :happy2:

Further to that, any other little mods like lowering it slightly or changing the wheels?

This'll be staying mostly standard, comfy commuter.

Plan to get a toy to keep in the garage at some stage.
