What head units are people rocking?
« on: April 02, 2013, 08:11:23 pm »
Hey guys,

So I have the base head unit in my GTI, which hardly gets used. I always use my Parrot MKi9200 for MP3's though. Parrot is also annoying as I can't see it in strong sunlight. Also, if i'm navigating with maps I need to use my phone (dangerous!).

So i'm on the lookout for a decent headunit that has support for maps, handsfree, mp3/iPod and also apps for streaming etc. I'm currently looking at the Parrot Asteroid smart.

I'm interested to see what others are using and how they look in the car.

I have the VW Kenwood unit. Great peice of kit and has everything you need aswell as Kenwood offer a few other added extras like integrated reverse cameras etc etc. Only downfall of the Kenwood unit is the price of the satnav update which is £200. but other than that its really good and reliable.

Like most people with Nav on here I have an RNS 510 as I like to keep to the OEM stuff, its a fantastic bit of kit with the updates and maps readily available on the tinternet.

Hey Guys,

Sorry for not replying sooner.. I forgot to enable notifications when I registered.

Anyway, I think my budget would be about max £650 i'd say.

Have any of you guys tried the Asteroid Smart from Parrot?

I have this:
http://www.erisin.com/erisin-es1268v-8-hd-car-stereo-wifi-3g-dvbt-mpeg4-nav_p365.html

Its cheap and you can tell it's cheap but with features like a reversing camera, free view, dvd's etc, you cant go wrong.

This.

£650 should see you with the latest DAB one too (if you can find one).

I've got an erisin 898. Looks more or less like an mfd 3. Plug and play, Bluetooth, tv, DVD, mp3, sat nav, radio, touch screen, USB port

For £220 you can't go wrong! Don't quote me on reliability though however had it for 5-6 months and so far so good

I've recently upgraded to a Kenwood DNX521DAB, great unit, although probably slightly out of you budget.

Diamond Black 2007 (56) Golf GTI 3Dr DSG ¦ 18" Monza II's ¦ Cruise control ¦ MFSW ¦ Highline ¦ Rear parking sensors ¦ PDT Stage 1 ¦ Forge Twintake ¦ H&R Sport Springs ¦ NQSBBK ¦ R32 Rear bumper ¦ BCS Powervalve Sports R32 style TBE ¦ Valeo LED Rear Lights ¦ Xenon lights with HID kit ¦ DNX521DAB ¦ 12mm Spacers all round ¦

Tank or yascooluk, either of you got pictures of this fitted. It looks good in them pictures, wondering if it looks the same in person? Hows the interface? Tank how long have you had it?

What are those Erisin units like? I'm generally pretty wary of budget-brand head units, as they can sometimes be painfully slow with weirdly designed user interfaces.

They do look pretty OEM though.
