Cheap fix if you need to reset your airbag light
« on: April 03, 2013, 07:15:49 pm »
Vacuuming my car the other day I must have knocked the airbag cable under my seat which activated the airbag fault light.  In the 6 years I've had the car it's actually happened 4 times now.  First time the dealer reset under warranty.  The second and third time a kind member off here reset it for me with vag.com.

After a bit of searching around the net I stumbled across this device http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/U281-Universal-VAG-CAN-BUS-Fault-Code-Reader-Scanner-diagnostic-scan-tool-/300878875941 which worked out at £14 delivered.

It did as it says, plug it in, test for srs fault and then clear it.  Took 30 secs and saved a load of hassle.  Also have the peace of mind if it happens again I can just pull it out the glovebox and remove it.  It apparently tests for other faults too but I've not messed any further than the airbag light.

I've posted as I could find very little in the forums about it and assumed it was too cheap to work.

I have VCDS but do have a fault code reader which is a good bargain buy for basic fault reading and clearing faults which have been rectified.

If you want to avoid it happening there is a technical bulletin to cut the plug under the seat loom and solder it straight through instead.
I did it with my old car as moving the 3dr seats often activated the airbag warning light, many others have done it too with great success.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
