Regarding the new pedal arrangements I wonder whether VW are perhaps listening to the motoring press a little with this car.
And maybe not customers..in that they now offer the Performance Pack diff etc

And.... I recall that Phil Bennett, Touring Car/GT Driver bloke was saying in press/websites that the normal throttle pedal set up (as we know in Mk5's etc) was a hindrance to smooth heel/toe action, so normal pedals would have been better in his view.

Bit hazy on the full detail of the story but that was the gist of it, I wonder if that may have been considered to lead us to the Mk7 pedal arrangements..just my 2p worth.

I'd be massively surprised if heel/toe action was anything to do with new pedal arrangement. I think it's more likely a cost-cutting exercise.

Those pedals remind me of what normal crappy pedals look like under the rubber covers, ESP. The accelerator, not much grip on the edges of that.

What the f*ck is with the tailpipes?! The back end looks pish!

That's exactly what I don't like. It has an unfinished look to it ???

I like the look of this car overall. Much prefer the 'Austin' alloys, panoramic sunroof option , pedals may not look the best but that's more to do with safety it seems.

Quote
Safety pedals are designed to minimise the risk of injury to the driver in a head-on accident. The programmed deformation ensures that the brake and clutch pedal do not penetrate further into the driver's footwell during an accident. In the event of a frontal crash, the pedals are moved out of the way or disengaged by means of a lever mechanism.

So if you have a crash and you are stuck in the middle of the road you're unable to drive the car out of the main carriageway... nice .

Nasty wheels on that.  Don't like that sensor on the front either.  Just horrible pedals.  Why did they get rid of the floor mounted gas pedal?  And miss the flat bottom steering wheel.  Don't fancy those tail lights either!  IMHO they have ruined the gti.  Gutted!  I won't ever own one.  :sad1:
