New alternator?
« on: April 05, 2013, 11:19:31 am »
Couldn't start my car the other morning, couldn't jump start it but took the battery out and charged it and its now starting fine.

Went to halfords because the test your battery + alternator.

Apparently my battery is only holding 60% of the amps it once did and needs replacing.

The other thing his machine showed was a alternator fault. Now I have had a rough idle for a while now, the revs don't really move you can just hear the engine drop slightly then rev a little. The guy said that's my alternator causing this, gave me a reason to do with the power wave or something that I have forgotten now

Does this sound right? I'm replacing the battery for sure.

Anyone have the part number for alternator or Can get it refurbished?

Rough fitting cost?

Rough price on a new alternator will be £200+ for genuine or around £100/£150 non genuine.
