MK5 GTI - Daily Drive
« on: April 05, 2013, 11:29:40 am »
Bought my MK5 in july 2012 to replace a clapped out mk3 gti 8v that was serving as my 'cheap' daily but it was a shed and needed lots spending on it.

The plan was / is to keep it sensible to daily but also be able to have some fun in it now and then.

Day I got it.

It was a standard 2005, door, red, dsg with 48k and heated seats. I'd been looking for one with mfsw, highline clocks, nav & cruise but this one was lower mileage and they p/x'ed the shed for strong money....

First job was to remove the GTI badges and paint the front vw badge black. Gave it a wash, clay, polish and wax at the same time.

I work at a concrete plant so it gets covered in cement dust every day...

Next job was to sort out the timing chain rattle, had it done at an independant garage who used to work for the local dealer, wasn't too dear but transformed the car

I needed to get my trials bike round so i bought a tow bar and a bike rack and set to...

Then i bought a blueflame suitcase delete pipe as it looked nicer from behind and made the dsg 'fart' sound awesome without being loud & lairy

and removed the number plate plinth, i like the smooth look even on my drift car..

Thats it up to date, it is currently in the garage getting a new rear caliper and a cv boot.

Things i'd like to do next.

MFSW
Highline clocks
Upgrade the head unit to rns or aftermarket double din nav
Stage 1 map
upgrade brake pads
Something like bbs lm reps or ed30 wheels

Looks nice! Everyone loves the smooth front with no plate! (except the police) They love it too...

Not a fan of the tow bar... but it works & is practical so  :P

Bah, they'll love it too.   I have an undersize front plate on the nissan, as does my mate and my other mate hasnt had a front plate on his skyline for years.

I dont like the tow bar either, hopefully collecting a pick up soon so i can carry the bike on that and get rid of it.

Im not sure how much the boot is yet, but yes they are 2 parts of the same component. The boot keeps the grease in the joint and the muck out. :)

Im suprised he can get away with in, is it in the window?

Either that.. spray the silver tow bar black so its more hidden

It was intended to be black but if its not staying on I won't bother :)

The GTI is no longer my work bus, bought an 03 ford ranger, so it will be easier to keep clean and look after. :) As a consequence the tow bar will now be coming off once ive bought a new rear lower bumper.

Bought some goodies, i like goodies  :happy2:

Carbon fibre flappy paddle extensions.

Genuine bottle opener

New 'rape disc'

and -55mm lowering springs

As ive got no time, due to super awesome project, ill probably get the garage that services it to fit my springs and remove the pre cat.
