Wynns EGR Cleaner Help
« on: April 11, 2013, 08:12:38 am »
Hi Guys,

Just ordered some Wynns EGR cleaner but i'm not sure exactly where to spray it into the engine. I have read on here that you have to take off a pipe on the PCV valve but I was wondering if anyone could post a pic showing exactly where to spray?

Or if someone could explain how to do it that would be great :)
Cheers :)

Saint Steve has used this recently so it may be best to PM him  :happy2:

If you follow the PCV pipe from top of engine it goes into the black plastic inlet manifold, if you remove that pipe, that's where you spray it

This can only ever go badly but you want to take the EGR off and spray it in the EGR directly.

Directly above the VW badge on the engine cover, you'll see a little thing, that's the EGR.
I would just buy an EGR delete if I were you.. saves so much hassle.

I have read a lot of posts where people are saying it is fine to do? hmmm made me think twice now.

It's fine, I was thinking if you were going to do the whole turbo cleaning crap as well.
I'd still take the EGR out for the 20 minutes it would take, and you could properly clean it out then as well.

No not touching the turbo. Had a brand new one fitted at the weekend.

I don't know if I wanna touch the egr as I wouldn't have a clue where to find it or how to remove it. Is it easy?

If this is for a diesel, I've done a guide, see how too section.
You won't notice much in performance or economy but will be more reliable as egrs fail and cause issues and also clog up your inlet manifold.

Got a BKD engine, looks different to the one in the pic, looks like the egr is towards the front, doing a service this weekend so wanted to give this a go

I did this on my bkd but I didn't actually remove the egr I just undid two easiest bolts and twist it around and cleaned it with a small screwdriver to remove crud then finished it off with a rag soaked with petrol

The pic above was on a 1.9 tdi engine, same part though. On a BKD it is below the engine cover as you found.

Easy to remove it and also do the anti shudder valve at the same time (other valve attached).
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
