Helmets - Talk to me???
« on: July 28, 2009, 09:44:01 pm »
I am considering doing a few more track days and hope to be cracking the 110mph terminal speed at the Pod, so think I need to invest in a helmet of my own.

Anyone got any advise on what to look for??

Cheers,

Steve  :drinking:

If looking at doing Track days later on as well as 1/4 miles get an open face. I have a Sparco you may look a Knob and can't pretend to be the Stig but it has loads of plus points.

Easy to put on even when it the car

Good visibility

You don't get to hot

 :happy2:

PS I think mine is XL  :P
Golf GTi Edition 30-Grey - 5 Door - DSG
APS Re-Map, Milltek Non-Res Exhaust, R32 Brakes, Eibach Springs, Eibach ARB's, Carbon Speed Air Intake, Forge DV.
And much more to come.

Make sure it got a blue safety triangle on it as they need that on for track days. I have a sparco open faced one and u might look a knob but it's great and does not cost too much

I've got an OMP Jet Axis, I seem to remember I chose it over the Sparco Club because it was marginally lighter and cheaper.
Sideways yo!

Got 2 of these, 1 for myself and 1 for fiancee. Rally Design do them cheap and VAT free:

^ About £90 IIRC. A biker mate advised me.

I've been advised never to lend a helmet - They settle into your head shape and another person wearing them will alter your fit - Helmets must fit tight to be effective.

I use a Shoei XR1000 helmet for the bike which is a pretty top-end model, the Shoei shape suit me. Different make helmets are different shapes, a med in 1 make and a med in another make may or may not fit you. Its not just down to the sizeing its down to the shape of the helmet and finding 1 that suits you. A helmet should apply a steady pressure all over your head and face with no tight spots, and like Robin said they do mould to your head  :happy2:

just read that back and not sure it made much sense
