EGR delete pros and cons

Been looking at various threads on different forums regarding EGR delete and seem to get a lot of differing advice. Anyway from what I have read so far

Pros:
Tidier engine bay
Cleaner internal engine
Smoother (differing opinions)

Cons:
Higher combustion chamber temperatures (cant be good for engine?)
More shudder on shut down
No performance benefits

Any views etc appreciated

Hello mate

I had mine software deleted (always closed) with the remap on our tdi.
I have noticed no adverse repercusions, it's the ASV that controls shudder on shutdown and that is seperate to the EGR.

I have the Darkside Developments one and have experienced no adverse effects from fitting it. My reason to fit was I had seen the state of the inlet manifold on my old PD150 and didn't want it to end up like that. I see it as a preventative mod as opposed to a performance one.

As Skard has said, the mk5 set up is different so you will retain the ASV if you remove the EGR.

Higher combustion chamber temperatures (cant be good for engine?) Why is intake temperatures higher? Exhaust gas is hot - incoming fresh air is not.. EGRs actually shorten engine warm-up time because of this
More shudder on shut down Incorrect, the removal of the ASV is what causes shudder on shutdown. The EGR and ASV are seperate to each other. I have an EGR delete but still have an EGR
No performance benefits Not as such but it will create less intake restriction (trust me soot is horrible stuff) reduce intake air temperatures and provide the engine with cleaner air

There's no reason at all to keep an EGR, there are no drawbacks worth mentioning at all. Your VNT is also less likely to get coked up..
