New MK5 Owner, CAT C Project!
« on: April 09, 2013, 08:19:36 pm »
Greetings MK5 lovers,

Been referred to you guys from edition 38 as a great resource for the Mk5,

done a few dubs , a GTi TD Mk2 Golf:

http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=126326&hl=+gernster

and have just finished a pig a a project TDI Arosa that EVERTHING was kn ackered on!

http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=478364&hl=+gernster&page=1

Now the Arosa Daily is finished Ive turned my attentions to something I can play with on a weekend and something to replace the other halfs ageing E36 316ti compact (which to be fair is a lovely car, but shes had it for about 9 years and shes sick to death of it)

So with money tight and my project fingers itching Ive just put a deposit on this, getting shipped to me next week:

2007 2.0 TDi S , 59,000 miles still with its service history , just needs airbags and a front end, simples!

Ive been through the various front end options with the gf tonight and shes fancies a GTi replica, so after a set of 17" Gti wheels and the front end.

This is my first Mk5 golf ( Ive missed out mk3 and 4!!) so I'm kinda in uncharted territory!!

Good man, I like to see a bit of effort going into a project. Would make a good build thread.

I presume you bought it for a song?

Before you start messing around with it I would very carefuly inspect the chassis leg on the side that took the impact dude.. They are surprisingly weak and once they crumple that's it.
If that's all straight (compare both sides very carefully, you can do it from underneath on the ground with a jack) - Then should be a nice little turnaround, £1000 for a radpack, bodywork back to as-new and it's a £3k car..

First thing I asked about was the state of the chassis leg. They assure me its fine, just the end plate might want straightening up a bit. I've bought it from a large reputable salvage yard so hopefully they have been straight with me!

Yeah budget is a grand, so hopefully with a bit of wheeler dealing and no surprises I should come in under budget.

I'll put up a build thread and start researching what I need to know . one thing I am interested in is hooking the stereo up to a Bluetooth system with media streaming for music from our phones.
