Welcome Tank, glad to see another silver Jetta on here  :happy2:
Also good to see your removing chrome!
200 bhp should be nice

What are you chromist!!!?

Been called many things in my time Andy but not a chromist!
Chrome just does'nt suite silver cars IMO

Seen as the sun was out today I thought i would do a bit of painting on the car. I did the front lip, grill surround and engine bay. Still got a bit to do, but but I'll finish it tomorrow.

Yeah painted it myself with a few cans. If you are planning to paint it, I would get a thick filler primer and give it plenty of coats until its smooth. I left the texture in and although it looks alright, it's not that great close up.

Nice to see another Jetta on here - 312mm brakes off a GTi are a good start on the brakes (same calipers & pads) just need 312mm discs and different carriers.

200bhp is easily do-able! I'm upto 185 on a PD140 with just a map!

Good luck with the mods!

I looked into it but from what I'm told s3 brakes wont fit under 17's so its £500 for the brakes then the same again at least for new wheels, but i could get the gti brakes with yellow stuff pads for between £200 to £300.

Hey bud. S3 stoppers do fit under 17s. I would not bother with the upgrade to 312s and instead go straight to the S3/R32 units.
I have 17 x 7.5 ET56 at the front and have around 10mm caliper to wheel on the side, about 15mm rear spoke to caliper, and about 4mm caliper to wheel weight.

You can see a pic here and here

Car is coming along nicely bud, hoping to see some good progress. Not sure on tuning of the CRs, the PD140s eat turbos so you need to watch out on them, hopefully the CR ones are a bit stronger! If it has a DPF get that removed and it'll feel like a whole new car along side a remap!

Im going upto 312mm brakes as they are a cheap upgrade compared to r32/s3 brakes. Only need the carriers and new discs. Got mine for £100ish

Right now I'm a bit tight up for cash as had to do a DSG service, one tyre, tax and insurance in one month so I think I will just go for GTI brakes for the time being.
I will wait until i can find a cheap pair of S3 brakes as its easy enough to sell the GTI brakes at what I got them for.

I did get the bargain of the century last week though. GTI front and back anti roll bar with bushes for a fiver :)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Golf-GTI-Mk5-Front-Rear-anti-roll-bars-/330907478937?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=sHrgOF%252BG2t9zBvt9P9r1PROUSI8%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I'm still in shock about that one. I know its only 1 or 2 mm thicker but every little helps.

I got the spray cans out today again.

Removed the rear bumper.

I used high build primer and gave it 3 thick coats. Then i sanded it down starting with 400 grain sand paper going up until al the texture was taken out. This is the result.

Then i gave it 3 coats of paint and 3 coats of lacquer. A little tip is to heat up the lacquer before you spray it to make it go on smoothly.

All i need to do is buff it up tomorrow and re fit it and hopefully it will look great.

Doesn't look like a bad finish at all there mate! It's all in the prep lol you seem to have done a nice job!  :drinking: :drinking:

The Jetta looks weird without a rear bumper sort of like a transformer  :signLOL:
