Remap problem......
« on: March 21, 2013, 11:47:59 am »
Ok, so a guy came down from Bradford to give my 1.4tsi (170) and mobile remap.......he sat there with his laptop for about half and hour (looking a bit confused by the end of it) and then said my ECU couldn't be remapped as its using a 'guinea pig' version of a mk6 ECU called a med17 (or something similar didn't quite catch it), he'd managed to download the map but couldn't upload an updated one as it was write protected.......then he packed everything away and said 'sorry about that' and proceeded to drive off down the road leaving me confused hahaha! So, can my car actually be remapped or have I got some sort of funky ECU that won't allow it.......basically I'm taking what he said with a pinch of salt because it doesn't sound right to me......if that's the case it means a bluefin or anything else I could upload myself won't work either I guess?

Any advice appreciated :)

Chris.

Same as some of the later cars that run MED17 ecu's. It will need unlocking on the bench before it can be flashed.

A decent remapper worth his salt could do it... use someone tried and tested, Revo Dealer, PDT, R-Tech etc.

As said speak to a decent tuner as i think the ecu has to come out. Where are you based? North, south?

Not if you have a fully equipped workshop with the right equipment, ECU will need to be opened in a clean environment, not on your driveway.

I'd recommend JKM, they're in Portsmouth. They have a a lot of knowledge and experience. Give them a ring, Kate will help you out.  :happy2: http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/index.htm
