Future Mk5 Owner - Now with Pics
« on: April 05, 2013, 10:56:44 am »
Hi I'm currently looking to buy a mk5 either a gt tdi 170 or a gti. Should really get a tdi for the fuel economy but have seen a lovely gti in the classifieds which I am very tempted by but dont have enough posts yet to message.

I currently have a mk3 16v anniversary and usually post on golfgtiforum.co.uk but thought I would see what is happening here as I am upgrading :happy2:

Welcome along mate.

Depends how many miles you do mate.. the TDI 170 has a DPF which makes it unpractical for regular town driving, and to be honest cold TDI MPG is not that good (trust me I know). I would buy a petrol GTI, they do around 35-40mpg on a cruise.

Yeah that's what I'm leaning towards at the moment as I am struggling to find any 170's with decent spec for a reasonable price partly because I definately want leather.

If I got a 170 I would probably delete the DPF and remap but that adds to the cost.

If you're OK to have a higher mileage car the PD170s get cheaper but the GTIs are generally better priced.

Sounds like you made the right decision, I have just purchase an edition 30 and love it. Only problem is I am enjoying so much that I'm averaging about 25MPG at the moment

Good to meet you too Ian. I think I will start a thread in members rides as I've got a couple of plans up my sleeve for it already. Anyway until then thought I would post a couple pictures of my Mk3 16v Anni before it goes up for sale.  :sad1:

Below on the www.golfgtiforum.co.uk club stand at VW Festival at Harewood House in Leeds last summer.

And now my new GTI, pic stolen from Ian as I've not got any of my own yet.
