Armrest kit - opinions...
« on: May 26, 2013, 09:09:20 am »
Hi,

I've tracked down a full leather armrest kit.. Downside is it's in China! Now I don't mind waiting for delivery, assuming I don't get stung for import taxes. However I'm a bit concerned as to whether its genuine or a fake - does anyone know if fakes are often made?? It also says Black, and I've done some digging an as far as I can tell there wasn't a MK5 black interior, only dark grey. Again, any advice or opinions would be welcome before I take the plunge!

Regards
Robin

Its in China , have a guess if its fake or not

Looks genuine though in the advert , but is that what you will get in the post ?? Also likely to attract import duty too

Just waitr for one to come up on ebay , i did  :innocent:

You're probably right - the seller has sold a load of vw parts and most of the feedback is good, but I can't see any of these sold on his feedback... Was half tempted to contact a buyer and see how we'll it fitted.

Might just wait for a genuine one - there doesn't seem to be any anthracite leather versions for sale at the moment though!

Is that not dealer price anyway?

Loads on ebay, remember a mk5 and mk6 lid is not interchangeable.

You could also get one on ebay.de, I did for my last car and it was much cheaper, even a few years ago. The ducting is not expensive

I called my local dealer yesterday and gave them the kit part number that I tracked down on the Internet and he told me it was now obsolete! So unless he wasn't being very helpful, I assumed you couldn't get the kits from dealers anymore....

I'll take a look at eBay.de cheers

Superb!! Thanks that will save me a small fortune to start with :-)

I assume the cloth 'lid' is pretty easy to remove and replace...? I've found the 'how to' guide for fitting the armrest, I'll take a look through that

Yep easy to swap out, but like I mentioned, mk5 and mk6 lids are different so make sure you buy two of the same

Thanks for the advice. A lot of armrest units on eBay seemed to be for sale as mk5/6, so I'll check exactly what they have been removed from

Easy to tell a normal mk5 from a mk6 lid. On the very late mk5 into mk6 they made the lid longer and put an indent underneath at the front to help pull it forward.

The mk6 plastic is also slightly darker than mk5 just so you know.
