I've got the same engine in my Scirocco and its great. Very responsive, torquey and can easily do 50+ mpg on a run. They are also very tuneable too

Not a bad sound out of them either - for a diesel. The DPF makes sure you don't get a hint of smoke out of the back and the tail pipes NEVER get sooty ,

I've activated the XDS on VAG COM - the GTD has it turned on from the factory, is recommend switching the setting up to 2 on VAG COM for the full effect. With the XDS it's incredibly capable out of the corners, I'm amazed how much grip it gives you  :happy2:

You can also activate needle sweep and loads of other options with VAG COM

Whats XDS?

It's an electronic LSD. Works really well - although not quite the same as a mechanical diff

What sort of mileage is the car going to be doing? In selling the GTI for a GTD you may take some time to pay back the mileage difference as a GTD will likely cost a few grand more than you will get for the GTI + the extra cost of Diesel.

The GTD is no doubt a great car but there is some badge marketing going on here and the GTI is going to be more special and that kind of fits the bill better as a 'weekend car'?

You will notice 170 BHP vs a mapped GTI...The GTD wont be slow though.

Just seen your build thread...what a lovely GTI, you would surely miss it?

Yes ideally it would stay... but moving to a place with no off street parking like I have at the moment, GF will have to start using it daily (plus she is younger so insurance is an issue). TBH id rather just get a more regular looking standard car than let the GTI get ruined.

Mileage likely to be 15k per year

Is the move purely financial? I think if you did the sums on 15k mileage there would be a reasonable period of time before breaking even once you take into consideration the difference in car values.

The GTD is hardly a shed...looks virtually the same as as a MK6 GTI and surely one would be as hacked off if they spent 18k on a car to find some scroat has scratched it?

Have you got any original parts you can put back on and sell the stuff you added?

Sorry to dig out an older one fellas.

Does my MY10 A3 2.0 170PS TDI Black Edition not have the XDS diff that the same engined' GTD and Rocco' get, then? Not sure if I've missed out or if it'll allow me to have more fun when on a stage 1 map...

Find someone local with VCDS and check in the ABS module  :happy2:

I'm really pleased with the XDS, can really put down some power in the bends now  :driver:

I've had VCDS for years, never found it on the Audi though. The Audi 2010+ CECM's are considerably locked down compared with the MK5 platform stuff  :sad1:

Worth having then(?) and perhaps can make more use of it with a map, too?

Yes definitely worth having, only found out on a forum after I'd bought it  :jumpmove:

I found mine in the last bit on the long coding helper, then adjusted the strength through the drop down menu on the adaptations to 2 (strong).

Can comfortably say the Rocco handles better than my MK5 now

It does give the brakes some hammer though

It's funny you mention this. I'm about 70% certain on ordering the new MK7 GTD for September this year. Getting an amazing deal on PCP through my brothers leasing company.

Mk7 GTD 184PS - with Xenons, adaptable suspension and Sat Nav for £184 + Vat a month.
