Mk6 engine problems

Reading a few forums it seems the 2.0 tsi on the Mk6 is having chain tensioner issues. Engines are getting completely mangled at as little as 50k miles.

Maybe we should be grateful the Mk5 cam follower issue is a simple preventative maintenance item.

I've heard its only a few that have suffered.

More worrying for TFSI owners was the photos R-Tech Nick put on Facebook today where the timing chain had failed (not the cam belt, the chain on the other side of the block). Looked a mess  :sick:

Was that R-tech? as Statllers steve had put up pics also of chain failure.

Seems a prevalent issue on briskoda as well.  Theres a VAG fix/revision out though from what i gather.  Theres also the issues of oil starvation when cornering hard that causes turbos to blow.  APR have a fix for that though I think. 

So probably nt to expensive to pre-emp and fix.  Those issues aside, the engine itself is a much better feat of engineering.  Much better fueling, stronger internals much more responsive to tuning.  You can use the money saved by not requiring a better HPFP to replace the cam belt tensioner!!

There seemed to be several instances of the ratchet failing on one of the chain tensioners putting the timing out when the car was started and inevitably causing a lot of damage.

The Tensioner has been revised several times since the 09 release.

The best thing to do would be to update to the latest Tensioner on earlier models outside of warranty.
