hi guys only just registred on here sorry to jump in at deep end but my car is in the garage having cam chain adjuster and tensior and guide rails replaced but the adjuster bolt which is tapped into cam chain is stuck in solid is this right they cant get it out at all is this normal as any one come across this

They are bloody tight. With the correct cam locking tool and a breaker bar ive always been able to get the bolt out.

hi well they are a vw specialist so i would asume they have the correct tools they are trying to sting me for a new cam i am little bit warey that they have tryed heat or something and the cam may be missed shaped now they want 200 quid for a new cam does this sound about right price wise why would the bolt be so hard to undo they saying they tryed everything

Im Bedford.  You could always send the cam down. I have a spare head I can chuck it in and try. As long as its the genuine vag tool rather than the laser version then it should come undone. Best ask them.

right i will ask them tomorrow would you say a fault tensionr and guide rail is under warranty on a car what would you charge to get the bolt out of cam out cheers gordon

I had the cam chain, tensioner and adjuster replaced under vw warranty

hi gazza what sort of warranty did you have and who was it through mate they are trying to tell me that it is not a mechanical part that has caused the problem which i dont really understand at all

I have a rolling monthly warranty with VW.

I had a warning light come up and they took the car in and read the error coded but needed to contact VW for more information as they could get a fix from these codes. After a few days they came back to me and I took the car in again. They did some further tests, may have been an oil feed pressure test but I'm not 100% sure.

They then told me that they had to replace the cam chain, tensioner and adjuster but VW wouldn't pay for the cover unless my local dealer could prove damage to the original cover do they put the old one back on.

I have driven the car for about 2000 miles since and no warning light problems and no warning light. (The light used to come on intermittently).
