94k on an edition 30 too high?
« on: April 18, 2013, 10:39:01 pm »
Hey guys, I'm currently looking at an edition 30 for sale but has around 94k on the clock, is that too many miles of will be ok? It looks to have been well looked after and good service history, it's also DSG so will the mechtronics be ready for dying at that mileage? It's just had a DSG service aswell.
Don't want to go putting a fair wedge down on a car that's ready for dying, what's people's opinions?

Cheers steve

my new golf has 94k on it, and my old golf had 45k on it. This one feels much tighter, less rattles and in much better general condition than my last one so dont let miles put you off if its been well looked after. A dsg service is quite expensive so if the owner has had that done i would imagine its been looked after. Reminds me i need to get my dsg serviced too. Iirc the mechatronics fail at an early age so they would of been repaired by now.

Mine is on 74K and runs like a new 'un  :happy2:

Condition and good history of proper maintenance is the more important factor imo

has around 94k on the clock
This is not important. Except when you're haggling - whine on about the high miles and how you're doing them a favour by taking it off their hands.
been well looked after and good service history
This is what is very important.

Just coming upto 90k in mine I have done all the miles in mine and still it's tight as a drum so don't let mileage put you off an engine can do a million miles if looked after its just so many people are bothered about miles

I'm not usually bothered about mileage, most of my cars have had 80k plus, but with it being high performance and such I just wanted to be sure that the engines were strong as I haven't much experience with the tfsi. Tbh my main worry was the DSG mechtronics as I know there waaaay expensive when they go bang, what should I be looking out for with regards to them?

Thanks guys.

Find out if the DSG service intervals have been adhered to. If its on 94k, it should have had 2 done so far (the service being every 40k). Also, if you have access to the reg number, give VW customer services a call to see if the mechatronics unit has already been replaced under warranty.

On the note oh high mileage - i wouldnt be concerned, i presume the majority of those miles are motorway miles. This is much better than a similar age car thats only down 30 odd k miles as this suggests mainly short journeys which isnt good for a car - especially with a turbo..

Hope this helps

I bought mine about 6 weeks ago with 80k. As long as its backed up with all the expected receipts its not an issue. The one I bought had an interior that looked much smarter than a lot of low milers.

Cheers rich totally forgot about that, just phoned a mate at VW with chassis number and its had new mechatronics at 57k so that's a massive box checked, interestingly it's had arches done and A/C compressor done too. Happy days on some main gti weak points fixed!

Cheers guys, think my mind is made up, time for some edition 30 shaped smiles!!!

good drills! one less (expensive) thing to worry about!

Has the cambelt been done?
With the 94k miles in mind, i think your very first job would be to replace the camfollower for piece of mind...
