Hi Guys,

Well my mrs took the car and she bought it back with these marks all across the bottom of the passengers side door. Shes denying everything!!

So i initially bought some scratch remover from halfords (turtle wax stuff). i applied it and it seemed to hide the marks but didnt actually remove them. The marks became invisible until it rained!

i dont know what the marks actually are but ive run my nail across them and it seems they havent got into the paintwork but then again they dont seem to be on the surface either as im sure they would have come off.

Anyway i aint got a clue with this now. can anyone help? Ive bought some auto glym super resin polish but i havent used it yet. Just wanted some further help as to how i can go about removing the marks

My guess would be a plastic bollard or something like that. Should polish out with a bit of cut.

TBH I think that's paintwork damage. You're unlikely to be able to remove it by just polishing IMO. Products like ScratchX and SRP tend to fill things rather than actually polish them out. Take it to a bodyshop or detailer to be assessed.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

do yourself a favour, save yourself some time and money, take it to a professional. Detailer or recommended bodyshop. Also worth noting, from looking at it, you are unlikely to get a 100% turnaround without paint. But, you might get it to 85% and be more than happy with it when you consider the cost of paint.

Hope this helps

She has nudged something or someone parking at the side of it has driven into the side of the car and scrapped past it.  :sad1:

This 'should buff out' as they say.. I had something like this on my last car (silver civic) only slightly worse, and took it to a bodyshop.. they applied a spot of G3 to a buffer and it removed 95% of the marks - was good enough that it wasn't noticed at trade-in time

If it can come out I'd say your going to need a DA polisher with some cutting compound; if you haven't got the tools and don't intend doing full detailing as a hobby, then take it to a Pro as it will be cheaper and they will get better results.

Thanks guys,

As i did point out in my original post that when i applied the turtle wax precision scratch remover then marks were nearly invisible but this was short lived as when it started to rain the scratch remover just washed off. I think what i should have done was put the remover on and then give it a few coats of polish/wax to seal it. maybe that would have done the trick?
