Components Issue up front
« on: July 31, 2009, 11:26:23 pm »
Hi guys, just updated the headunit finally, so iPod is now working again.  Only downside is the components that I bought at the same time.  I grabbed a Alpine CDE W203Ri headunit...dont use DVD or Sat Nav as the Samsung Omnia is absolutely spot on and I get all the new maps  , but the Alpine SPG 17CS Components are causing issues in the set up.

Basically, I've been told that the OEM speakers, are three parts, low, mid, tweeter.  Whereas the Alpines only cover low/mid, tweeter.  The way that VW configured the wiring is apparently to feed the low, then the mid which is also split to continue to the tweeter.  This means that the Alpines can only deliver the low and tweeter, or I keep the OEM mid and tweeter.

The obvious solution is to purchase a 12" mid, tweeter component set and use a spacer to fill the original gap, but has anyone else had similar and how did you get round it???!?!?  Its annoying as hell having forked out, and the sound is clear, but cranked up the mid's still distort as they are the OEM's!!!!  I've still got to get my boot install sorted, and decide whether to fibre glass the wheel well or across the back seats as i have done previously.  Unsure if a 15" sub will fit easily in the wheel well unless protruding

Other than that the components and headunit are providing a clarity and volume of music i can actually hear on the motorway/A roads.  :happy2:

Don't really know about this, but a 15" sub will definitely protrude from a rear arch install. I did a 10" arch sub box and even that had to come out a little.

Golf R gone.
