RAF Tornado / Typhoon... where to see
« on: August 30, 2013, 09:29:13 pm »
Saw a couple at Rhyl last year, but that was only because I was cycling through and caught them on my phone... made a point of remembering the date this year only to see that this weekend the Air Show doesn't have them!?

Phone Quality

Where can you see some fast Jets performing before the summer over?

Here's the link to the RAF Typhoon Display Team programme for 2013 which lists the remaining displays they've got in September:

Saw the displays at Cosford and Waddington this year - fantastic!

I get to see them all the time.  Find them all boring now  :P.

The typhoons are pretty impressive though.  They did a flyby over Mt Alice in the Falklands when we were working up on the peak they must have been no more than 50ft above our heads.  We knew they were coming but couldnt see them then they just flew past us coming from low down heading up over the mountain.

Impressive to watch them take off as well.  When we were working on the runways when they take off we have to pull back 30 m for safety purposes, I have some footage on my phone of them coming past us.  YOu can se the pilot look over then pretty much take the Typhoon and just go upwards 100% vertical.  Absolutely deafening.  They make the Tornados sound quiet!!!

Classic demo of thrust over weight, in the vertical with the burners on they have in essence a negative mass - awesome....

Did see one do a bolter as his chute didnt deploy on landing he stuck it into reheat to get off again which it did and then the chute deployed......that one didnt climb so well till the pin sheared

If you don't mind sitting around freezing your wotsits off with little to no hope of seeing anything then the Mach Loop is the place to go :rolleye:

If you want more of a show then obviously an airshow will be your best bet :happy2:

I'd love to go up there one day Ben.  Is there any way of finding out when they're flying in the Loop before driving hundreds of miles to get there?

WOW Ben they are stunning mate! :happy2: Are there any training areas in Snowdonia?
I've heard a few Jets through there over the years.  I wouldn't mind doing a walk on the off chance, if there are any paths they take like Mach Loop.

Or you could just park up on the A15 in Lincoln and watch the Eurofighters.
