Dsg clutch longevity?

So with normal manuals, if abused, higher power going through standard clutch, the clutch can die right?

What about on dsg clutches?

Haven't heard of any clutch packs failing, unless you add Nos or Water meth, maybe its possible

The DSG clutch packs are "protected" from abuse by the electronics, although thousands of hard starts will eventually take its toll i guess  - Hurdy will be the best person to ask as he managed to get his clutch packs to slip after NOS (450+bhp  )

There are loads of GTIs with over 100k miles and the clutch packs are fine (RedRobin for example)

OEM manual clutch about £400 fitted

DSG - not sure as no one has had one fitted

OEM Clutchpacks for DSG are just over £1k IIRC, but you'd have to be seriously kicking some torque out to get them to slip. For comparison you'd be looking at upgraded manual clutches on a modded GTI/ED30, but OEM Clutchpacks are good to go on even stage 3 Golf R's which take much more punishment than any fwd car could equal.

In the beginning of 2012 was issued a new and improved B-version for the DSG clutch pack. I have seen the prices start at about 600e. Part number is 02E398029B. If I remember correctly this can hold a bit more torque than the A-version. Some (diesel) people have changed this also when changing DMF as its not that expensive when you have the box out anyway.
