MKV Hella Xenon-Look and HID Kit Install (Picture heavy)
« on: April 24, 2013, 01:19:12 pm »
Hello all,

I finally bit the bullet and bought a set of Hella "Xenon-Look" headlights and a 6000K HID kit. If anybody's interested i took some pics of the install and some info on what exactly I bought:

Headlights: Purchased from German Carparts GmbH
Part Numbers: 1LL 009 476-031 & 1LL 009 476-041 (RH Drive)
Cost: €342 delivered (Mar13)

HID Kit: Purchased from HID's Direct
Part Numbers: HD822/6k (35W)
Cost: £49 delivered (Mar13)

So, this was my car with the original, silver backed headlights.

I'm not going to explain how to remove the front bumper, too many threads on that and very easy to do - easier with 2 people.

Bumper off, standard lights out:

New Lights:

New lights in with standard bulbs:

Installing the HID kit:

The bulb holders are at a 45degree angle so the HID earthing strip doesnt require the dreaded "6 o'clock" mod:

As if they were designed for HID's no wire splicing required! Don't do what i did, red goes into yellow! BTW you will need to remove the bulb retaining clip to fit the HID kit as the clip goes round the wires.

I chose to stealth mount the ballast on the bottom of the units, where the OEMs should go, the holes lined up perfect, well for two of the three!

Headlights installed, bumper re-fitted, white LED sidelights, job's a fish...

Overall: Very happy, beam output and pattern is immense - sorry i don't have any pics of this yet. But passed MOT last week with them installed. Any questions re supplier or help required PM me. Don't forget to get on VCDS and change to "Xenon's without shutter" to prevent any chance of flickering etc..

Thanks for looking  :happy2:

Look brilliant :happy2:

I fitted my Depo Xenon Look lights last weekend (along with a 5k HID kit), love them. Like those sidelight bulbs you have, which ones are they?

Also I haven't done any coding in VCDS. What module will it be under?

Thanks, couldn't go back to halogens after driving with these installed. Couldn't tell you what LED's i have, had them for ages, just some cheap eBay jobby. I think it was under Central Electrics:

If you got an oldish VCDS you may not have the option but you can still change it manually see this http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3986819-HELP-Xenon-without-shutters-option-not-available-in-VagCom/

Hi mate
Out of interest why did you go into Xenon coding and enable Xenons? What difference does that make? I've been running xenons  (Hella Celis) for nearly a two years, without this box checked. Just wondered if it changed the behavior at all.

It was more preventative rather than a fix for anything. Research had said some people experienced HID flickering if you didn't enable this. I have VCDS so it was a 5 min job, if i didn't i probably wouldn't have bothered. Like you i had the celis sets on for about a year without this option enabled no problem

Good guide here mate

Could you tell me which leds you used for the sidelights?  Ive got a set of these headlights coming in and need to get the sidelights changed while the lights are off the car

Nice work. I see you have the newer slimmer ballasts as well. They sent me one of these as a warranty replacement but sent it back. I find that even though they are slimmer, all the boxes on the cables are a complete mess. They sent me an used but working ballast that I could fit where I had previously as the install is a lot neater. Here is a pic showing mine for reference  :happy2:

Done mine yesterday.  The light output is amazing!  All in with led sidelights come under £290!

Can you still operate the beam height adjuster after fitting these?
