Black VW grill emblem
« on: April 24, 2013, 08:05:28 am »
Hi guys

Tried the search tool but couldn't find any links as to where people have bought their black front VW emblem.

Want to add this nice little touch to my Eddie so any help and recommendations as to where to get a good quality one would be appreciated....found a few on e-bay but worried about the quality etc!

Presume they just twist off and easy to replace?

Thanks

There were places to purchase them, and some are still available on ebay.
Most people do their own as it is quite simple to manage. I suggest a flat black coat or two, allow proper drying, and then a final coat of plasti-dip reduces paint chipping. I have done three myself as I have a number of front upper grille's.
My diy has some instructions in the vid's description, but contact me with any questions.

How easy is it to remove, do they just twist off?

I have had both a matt black badge (Eurowagens) and gloss black badge (ebay shop but can't find them). Both were good quality. I kept the gloss black badge as I prefer the look.

Eurowagens seems to be selling both matt and gloss badges now so you could go for the easy (and slightly more expensive) option :happy2:

I removed the grill to fit as didn't want to break any of the tabs/clips. Only 4 torx screws.

If you try to twist it off from the front, without accessing the back side of the upper grille, you will damage the tabs that keep the badge on. It is designed to be removed from the outside, but only if you are installing a brand new one having good tabs. Otherwise, if you want to re-install the one you have, remove the upper grille and release the badge's tabs from the back of the grille. Two screws hold the top and the bottom of the grille and then there are the two release tabs at the top on each side that releases the grille. You then pull gently upward and away to clear all of the lower tabs.

Gloss black VW emblem arrived and fitted this afternoon, looks great, Pescara's getting powder coated on Tuesday and summer tyres back on, just need to decide to go with the Audi carbon grey or a silver....decisions decisions!!
