Should I sell my GTI?
« on: April 28, 2013, 09:33:51 pm »
So I'm a bit confused on the above matter ATM. I've owned my high spec 3 door, manual KO3 GTI for around the past 2 years & still love driving it to this day. Since I've owned the car I've also had a few other cars at the same time, one being a 305bhp DSG edition 30. It was am amazing car, loads of aftermarket parts such as TBE, arbs, B12 kit etc but I could never gel with the DSG properly and got an offer I couldn't refuse. So I sold it. Still miss it.

Cut a long story short ive just bought an M5 & don't think I want to use it daily due to fuel costs etc, so i thought about selling my GTI & buying something more economical as a daily. After cleaning the Car today I've had second thoughts & the fact that the cars had so much spent on it, needs nothing replaced and has such a good spec I've started to Think I should keep it and upgrade certain parts over time for enjoyment and still use it as daily while getting fair mpg (amazing compared the m5 lol)

If I sell the car for what I think its worth, around 6-6.5K I'd still be losing a pretty large amount of cash & the fact that most other second hand cars I'd buy would need work doing it's started to sway me to keeping the GTI.

Any opinions on what I should do? Not Many GTI's With the same spec as mine & the condition is amazing.

It's your car.
And it's your money

Thus it's your choice.

We cannot make that decision for you...

Depends on your mileage I reckon mate... A lot peeps buy diesels losing a slab of cash on trade in but don't work out exactly how much they are going to save on fuel over their petrol motor, and how long it would take to recoup costs.  Keeping the GTI as your daily might make financial sense. Lol.

The M5 Defo won't be going. Gonna have to think hard about what can replace the GTI  :sad1:

Is it an e60 m5? Having driven one, I would sell the gti and use the m5 as a daily driver. The performance of it is something else.

As someone else said, I think it partly depends how many miles you do - unless you do a lot, then buying a *slightly* more economical car doesn't stack up. I run a 'daily' and a weekend car, and it works out for me financially.

Although your car sounds great, I think you'll struggle to get near what you're wanting when there are plenty with similar mileage for nearer £5k- you know the car, and on this basis I suspect it's worth more to you to keep it than it is to sell. Keep it!
