Stupid question but need an answer
« on: April 28, 2013, 10:18:01 pm »
Going to pick up my new mk5 early this week and it's quite a way away. Because of this im gonna need some music on the way back, I don't think the car has iPod connections at the moment and I'm not sure about the mp3 discs

So what format can I make discs in to get some music going

Apologises for the waste of time but its better to be safe...

Its just a way of life.

Depends on the head unit. If the stereo is MP3 compatible (it will say MP3 on the front) then use MP3 format.

There's a method in Windows Media Player for converting MP3 tracks ready to burn to disc for the correct CD format to play on a normal CD player / head unit.  You'll only get 10-15 tracks depending on size of course.  It's been a while since I've had to do that so I forget the exact method.

As above, most CD writing software other than the one built into Windows has an option to burn music CDs,  converting the files into the type needed for a standard CD player.

If the car has a standard head unit then it will be an RCD300. Only later versions of this head unit can play mp3 files from a CD, otherwise it's standard CDs only. As said by the first reply, these units say mp3 on them and have silver buttons rather than the earlier black buttons (however not all silver button RCD300s also have the mp3 function).

.
Better to forget playing any distracting music and use the opportunity to get to know your new car, how she behaves and what sounds she makes. Usually takes about a thousand miles to become really familiar with a new car.

I know exactly what you mean mate, but there's a big traffic spot in the middle, took me and me old man an hour to go 10 miles so just wanna be prepared for that really

Cheers for the help guys, It's got the double din sat nav unit but I don't remember seeing a mp3 sign so just gonna make them standard in case, won't hurt
