Thanks to one of our forum member's, I was entrusted with the honour of installing a high end audio system in his beloved GTi Pirelli.
What an amazing car, probably THE most sorted MK5 out there with ballistic performance, both accelerating and stopping wise.
The brief was simple, top end components and great sound quality and a minimalist boot build. The components list is as below:
Audison Voce Quattro amplifier
Audison Voce 5.1k amplifier
Hertz Mille MLK 3PA - 3 way component system
Hertz Mille MLK 2TW - 2 way component system
Sound deadening by Skinz
Cabling, distribution and Capacitors by Connection by Audison
All of this is being driven by Alpine's top of the range INE-W928R 8" Fully featured head unit.
Here is a pic of everything that was to go into the car.
First off, started with stripping all the trim out of the interior, and then running the various cables required.
Then proceeded to remove the door skins and apply a good covering of Skinz sound deadening, along with running the new speaker cables through the factory OEM positions into the door.
Cables in the door were wrapped with cloth tape and neatened up, along with placing the woofers into the doors.
Custom mdf mounts had to be fabricated for the mid range speakers. The doors were also covered in Skinz panel liner to ensure no resonance of the panel.
Once the doors had been taken care of, the head unit was installed and the RCA interconnects run down the middle of the car under the central trim.
The interior could then go together while the boot build started. Here is the board all cut and carpeted. There is a frame underneath which allows all the cables to be run underneath hidden and provides rigidity to the board to prevent it warping.
Once the carpeting had been done, the components were screwed down onto the board and the cabling sorted it was installed in the car. Some Skinz sound deadening was placed around the spare wheel well to help reduce the noise in this area. The wheel well area was kept clear as the second stage of the build will involve a subwoofer and a complete rebuild of the boot area to accommodate this.

Last point of business which had been put off was to complete the A pillars with tweeters covered in genuine Alcantara. These were positioned ever so slightly off axis.

During the build last week, I also had the opportunity to fit an amplifier, Alpine IVE-W535BT and new speakers in the owners son’s Corsa VXR Nurburgring.
Both cars sound incredible, but the outstanding impression of the system in the Golf is superb clarity. There is still loads to come from the system, with the speakers needing to be broken in and then the system fully tuned to the customer’s taste.
