New Discs and pads ? Which ones for standard ED30

Anyone had these , look pretty good value

Now i'm going to ask it and i know you may laugh , but i don't care !

Can you get discs that don't rust that much as my car is going to be sitting about alot for the rest of its life and it would be nice to not have the rust issue , its why these are being replaced now . The Edges appear to be the issue really and due to it not being driven much the pads don't fully make contact with all the disc and the rusty edge gets bigger and bigger  :innocent:

Get any old disc, but grab some uprated pads... Mintex 1144 I would recommend.

As for rusting, paint the bell and edges with some hammerite before you fit them.:happy2:

iirc there are some brembo discs you can buy pre-painted...

The edges i mean is the actual braking surface . The car will be only driven 2-3000 a year for its life or until i get fed up with it !

The pads you mention are for fast road use and the car is not really used "fast road" and they are £115 on ebay just for the front pads !

Ahh I see, obviously don't paint that with hammerite, but you can get a Brembo disc with a painted contact surface too, should be good for your low mileage application.

Otherwise, might be worth giving the brakes a good cooking to remove any rust then once cool cover the wheels so they don't come in contact with any water.. it may stop a bit of the oxidisation process.

Re: Pads, the red box ones you've linked to should be fine if your not using the car to its ability.

MTEC make discs with a black, gold or silver coating over the entire disc. The parts that aren't swept by the pads will retain this coating so should stay looking good.

They're made in Northern Ireland so they must be good

I bought OEM front and rear pads and discs recently for £220 all in.

At prices like that, considering they lasted 52k miles and 6 years and would have lasted much longer were it not for an impromptu trackday, I think the OEM parts are good value.

My experience of cheapo Mintex pads and discs in the past on other cars has been that they're cheap for a reason.

The OEM discs come fully painted, inc friction surfaces (from which the paint is obviously removed promptly once put into service).
