Why didn't VW use the TSI on the higher powered cars?  Golf R / Ed35 etc.

Because they hadnt worked out how to make it work with a K04 turbo. Revo managed it a while back. . .

Not sure if the new Audi S3 is a K04 TSI lump?

Mine made 245bhp and 430nm stage 1 with no other mods.   The torque makes it a very quick car :)

was yours a manual?...or DSG....I ve heard the standard clutch on MK6 is the main sticking point in regards to BHP and Torque.

My previous car with REVO had 260 bhp on the rollers and 299 lb ft. It was an animal to drive, great fun but had traction issues.
I've since had the pleasure of time in a Bluefinned mk6 GTI which was less of an animal to drive but less wheelspin too...

Dug this out for you lot today, a stock car (was a 200tsi) made 212bhp and overlayed it with a stage 1 graph with 95ron and stage 1 graph with 99ron.

Torque gains with 95ron were 65ftlb and 86ftlb with 99ron.

The reason for the wavy curve on the 99ron is that we struggled for grip which caused wheel spin and loss of power lower down, did get some better runs but couldn't find them on our dyno database. Clearly shows the advantage of decent fuel, especially when the map takes the higher octane into account (saw an extra 3 degrees of advance over entire rpm range over what we get with 95ron fuel)

At 5500rpm you can see where the ECU pulls out ign advance and kills of the gain in curve.

The reason VW gave for using the EA113 (TFSI) in the Golf R & Scirocco R was "the older unit was more tuneable" - that says to me they were struggling to get 260+bhp out of the TSI. Obviously with a K04 on it would have p1ssed 260bhp so does make you wonder. . . 

Audi call all their engines TFSI, when actually a lot of the time it's the same TSI engine as in the golf. They never adopted the TSI name when VW did
