Not normal.
Do you have digital climate control?

On mine it was the recirculation flap motor. Behind glove box. Was driving me crazy.

Both my mk5's and Altea have this clicking from the motor between rear of stereo and glovebox, got to get around to changing the motors as it's annoying
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I've had this problem since new back in 2005, VW hadn't a bloody clue!!
May I ask what price this motor is, and how difficult/long to change??
Cheers

Glovebox off, a little bit patience undoing the elbow and if I recall something like an 8mm bolt to take old one off. Less than an hour if paying for it.

I got my recirculation flap motor off eBay as VW parts wouldn't answer the phone.

To replace you will need to remove the glovebox as already stated. I got the old motor out relatively easily but did struggle getting the new one back in as I couldn't get it to line up properly.  I left it for a couple of days as it was annoying me then fitted it with no problems!

It cured the clicking/knocking noise in my car. The little motor cost me £50 off eBay

You can just disconnect it and have no recirc function. Prob dont use it anyway.

Only ever use recirculation if going through a tunnel, although ive found it does blow out a lovely cold air on a really hot day, lol!
