panel filter on a gt tdi
« on: May 01, 2013, 08:10:07 pm »
Hi
Quick question for those with an uprated panel filter already fitted. Is it worth it? I was looking at getting a green cotton as these are "dry" filters and i have come to the conclusion they will do less harm to the maf etc.

Would anyone recommend anything else? pipercross/itg? what did you go for?

cheers

shaun

I had our 2.0 TDI on a rolling road and ran it with OEM filter, then ITG panel, it made a small difference, think it was 3-4bhp IIRC

Yh fair point. I was only looking into it as it is due a filter change anyway. I was considering using the opportunity to upgrade at the same time

All I can add to this, is when a garage recently serviced our Diesel, they forgot to reconnect the air intake pipe (yeh great I know), obviously the car was now running with no air filter. The car pulled much harder when I drove it, and on the bum dyno I gave it definate increased performance (and superb intake noise too   )
When I reconnected the pipe, it resumed usual performance IMHO.

A conclusion for myself would be that a better flowing panel filter will give better overall performance  :happy2:

I felt a bit difference on a quick spin around the block with no filter on so yeah, i'd recommend getting one if you need to replace anyway.
