RNS 510 code
« on: May 02, 2013, 11:10:41 am »
Is there a default code for an RNS 510 as there is for a phone until you change it?

I had a flat battery last night, I'm not sure why yet, the battery is only a few months old. It might be something to do with the latest Polar-Fis firmware. I have disconnected that for the moment.

When I got the car started this morning the RNS510 came on for a couple of seconds then stopped and showed a message saying the code was needed and that there were two attempts (now just 1  :stupid:) remaining.

This has never happened before, even when I had the old gateway which meant the battery was always flat! Nor did it happen when my battery gave up the ghost in winter.

I have checked everywhere for a code, handbook, service book etc, and can't find a code.

Cheers :drinking:

where did u buy the rns from? Ask the person you bought it off. Theres normally a card that comes with the unit. Ive found a few people selotape the card to the top the unit itself.

I bought it from Ben Wardle at Shark about three years ago! The number may be on top of the unit, but I'd rather not take it out as my air vent slats fall apart whenever they are moved!

I don't understand why it is asking me for the code as it never has done before.

Not sure Tony, Mine sometimes asks me when i take battery off, and sometimes it doesn't.

as far as im aware there isnt a universal code.

You could give Ben a call and ask him if he has the code, if not then you will have to risk taking it out.

How come your vents slats fall? have you lost that little side plastic thing that holds them all in place?

You can get a code for 5 bucks on eBay. Ofcourse, you would need to get it out for a VIN.

That's a relief, all is not lost then.  :congrats:

First I need to find out why the battery went flat and search the house in case I have the code somewhere.

I still haven't found the cause of the battery problem, although I think it is linked to the latest Polar firmware upgrade. They are looking into that.

For some reason, when I disconnected the Polar unit, the RNS worked ok, although I'm not sure if it does now because the battery went flat again.

If I can get it working, is there any way to read the code when it is on?
