Parrot and airbag light
« on: May 05, 2013, 06:18:11 pm »
So after spend the whole of the afternoon fitting my parrot kit I could not get it to power down correctly! I tried swapping the red and orange fuses round this didn't work! Any one have any advise?

So I decided to call it a day and put it all back together now I have an airbag fault flash up on the dash and the light stay on. Can I only clear the fault with VCDS? Or is there any other way?

Cheers

The mk5 golf doesn't have a switched live to run the parrot kit, you will have to run a wire to the fuse box to get it. One of the 10a fuses is a switched live. You can use these as a quick fix so no need to cut wires.

They are made by Autoleads and normally only cost a few £££ for 5 of the. I use loads of them.

The airbag light is probably on because you turned the ignition on while the airbag lamp was unplugged - easy mistake to make!

Hope that helps

Your joking!!! I've spent all afternoon trying to understand why it wasn't working from the cig lighter!!!
So that just replaces one of the fuses with a cable coming off it yea?

The cable you should have used is an SOT-976 with a fly live red wire. (It s long, but doesn't connect to anything)
You should run the red wire over to the fuse box on the drivers side.

Here is a link where you need to put you fuse with the wire on (make sure you put the side with the wire on it at the bottom so it's fused with the 10a red fuse and the parrots own wiring loom)

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=45170.0

Part number from auto leads for the fuses is BSF10.

Catalogue online is here - http://www.armourauto.com/sites/armourauto.com/files/AUTOLEADS_CATALOGUE_FullDocument%28Low%29.pdf

Pages 325.

I was trying to use your guide but as above I don't think I can take it from the cig lighter hopefully someone will be able to confirm this.

I use to be a hands free installer doing about 45 cars a week. Best one was a 6 mile old ed30 - the owner just about had a heart attack when I started ripping into it. Even more surprised when I told him 35 minutes later it was finished.  :happy2:

Cheers for the eBay link just purchased a couple of them. Will try again next weekend!
On the subject of where the fuse will go. Do I just use the same position as where that cable is going in on the link you posted?
Also while I'm at it where would usually mount the screen for a parrot mki9200 kit?

I normally put it on the small alloy/carbon/wood trim on the left side of the wheel, or all the way in the right corner just at the bottom of the a-pillar. However I have done 1 mounted from the courtesy light unit on the roof & another hidden in the ashtray. It's all personal choice.

Best way to check is with a multimeter if you have one to make sure it's the right place. It's the same place as I used on my 57 plate jetta when I first fitted my new radio. But since them I've upgraded again to a full canbus adapter - so no need anymore to have the fuse there.

Ok thanks for that. Might sound stupid here but when I test it what will I be looking for? Power when ignition is on and none when ignition is off?

I had a similar problem on mine when I got the car with a parrot hands free kit.

The kit went funny and the airbag light came on at the same time. The cause was the idiot who fitted it had used the airbag warning light live wire to use as a switched live and also only trimming a bit of the sheathing away and wrapping the wire around with no insulation around it!
How hard can it be?
