Can you buy a "Key Shell" ..... DONE!
« on: May 06, 2013, 12:48:51 am »
Hi peeps.

The keyring hook part of my keyfob has broken. Is if possible to buy a "shell" and just swap over my internals and key blade?

Thanks

Rich

yes but the transporter in the case is difficult to get out but not impossible--if you break it the car won't start

I don't need that bit swapping anyway. Just the back part with the battery in it.  :happy2:

THanks mate.... went for the slightly more expensive one, supposed to be genuine VW.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REPLACEMENT-3-BUTTON-FLIP-KEY-CASE-FOR-VW-GOLF-PASSAT-BETTLE-CADDY-REMOTE-KEY-/321065259042?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Other_Vehicle_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item4ac0fb1022

Will let you know how i get on.  :happy2:

At the bottom of that ad does say "Please note this item is as close to the original VW casings as possible in terms of quality and finish" so be forewarned if there's an issue.

I bought one of these last year and I was really impressed with the quality.  Changing the transponder chip (should you decide to do so) wasn't too bad either.  I just dropped some nail varnish remover on it to dissolve the glue, popped the chip out and then glued it into the new case again.  Job done!

Could do with doing this to one of my keys as the blade like when folded in wobbles loads due to it being worn :(

Glad to see its a good fit!
