Coil Light and "Engine Fault Garage" GT170 - HELP!
« on: June 10, 2013, 08:06:34 am »
So, as some of you may or may not know, I have a twitchy GT TDI 170. Still trying to get VW to sort it but because their computer says no, they won't admit there is a problem.

This morning, driving to work (23 miles on A roads) the dash pings at me, with a flashing light that looks like a coil or spring and the message "Engine Fault Garage". I am calling VW first thing for them to come and collect the car, but in the meantime, can someone give me some ideas of what could be causing these warnings, before VW fob me off with some cock and bull story!
This warning flashed up about 4 times, and the car felt quite sluggish on pull away after.

Thanks peeps

Lx

It covers quite a few things, from a faulty glow plug to a faulty brake light switch. you really need to get it plugged in.

I have checked the brake lights and all are OK, plus I was driving when it flashed up (as opposed to braking), so would that make a difference whether it was a brake issue?

I am calling them this morning to get it booked in. I am a little worried about getting it there, as it is a 23 mile drive home, but hey ho!

after your other issues before this one you could rule the brake lights out. your having some serious bad luck with this car, i'm sure you have more than a case to return this to the dealers and refuse to have it back.

I couldn't agree more!! I am sick to the back teeth with this car, and I am STILL paying for the privilege of owning it with the finance!! WTF!!

I have told my partner to call the Sales Manager who was meant to be "looking after me" after I made an official compliant to VW HQ about ALL of the issues with this car, but have I heard anything from him... have I ****!

I took it to them at the weekend to show them a video I took of it twitching and they say, they need to experience it themselves... can someone tell me what difference does it make if they see a video or see it them selves? There stupid computer will still tell them all is fine!!!

Sorry, I am so ****ed off with this car. I paid well over the odds for it, and have had issues with it from the day I drove off the forecourt. Yes its second hand, but I would expect more from a well known dealer and from a car with 65k on the clock (it had under 40k when I bought it). Thought these cars were solid!??

Rant over.... sorry :(

completely understand where your coming from, contact your finance company and give them the run down on what's happening, they can also get involved as they're the one who financed that car on behalf of volkswagen.

So... dealers couldn't be bothered to call me back, so called them just now. Told them the issue this time. They don't have a loan car until Friday. So I ask if the car will be OK to drive the 40 odd mile round trip each day until Friday... their words "we advise you don't drive it"

Great, so not only have I got to risk driving the car home, I have now got to find another way to get to work for the rest of the week, or risk using the car!!

Seriously, Watchdog is looking like the only option here!!
