Paint or Powdercoat

Need to get my wheels refinished, so Powdercoat or paint, which one is best?

Powder coat should be more durable if done correctly. However, paint should give a slightly better finish. IMO for an everyday car, powder coat is best option

Agree on the powder coat. The bright metallic finish on my ed30 wheels is superb.

Cheaper to paint, but its only about 1.5mm thick at max and is prone to flaking,

More expensive to powercoat but its atleast 3mm thick and doesnt flake, alot more durable!

Lol! Where are you going for paint and power coating?! Way too thick for both finishes. You'd be surprised how competitive powder coating prices are these days, my mate just got 4 x 18 inch alloys done for 160 and they look a good job.

Well,
I called to local companies today, Powder coating was £84 per wheel (gulp) and someone recommended by a neighbour would strip and paint for £240 for all 4.
I bought the wheels cheapish (£200 off the Bay) thinking they might clean up but only one is worth saving hence the need to get them done.
May I ask where you friend got them done please?

I rang my local tire centre near me in Rotherham and was given a price of £240 the wheels are 18 Monza they powdercoat and then wet spray ontop

For reference, I paid £300 for powdercoating my set of 18"ers at a specialist refurbers.  That was to strip back to the metal, repair damage and spray with three separate layers. Also included tyres on and off and balancing.

My experience with The Wheel Specialist makes me not believe what you said even more lol (they are franchises tho, so all are different)

1mm of paint is A LOT of paint!! Think of the stone chips on your bonnet, are they 1mm deep?

Paint thickness is measured in microns due to the fact that the paint layer on cars is very thin. Think thickness of 2 x pieces of normal paper.

N0,No, not a painter......It's a wheel specialist place but they use paint not Powdercoat.
