A metallic red Mk7....
« on: May 14, 2013, 05:15:35 pm »
.
Not the Mk7 GTI yet but I snapped this Mk7 Golf 2.0TDI at the traffic lights on Saturday while chatting to a mate on his market stall (it's a perfect place to perv on the ladies too - Which of course neither of us ever do!).

I approached the elderly occupants (as I'm never shy of approaching total strangers) and they told me it was hired and they loved it. I refrained from asking them what I should wear to dinner at their house.

My thoughts are that as it approached it looked like a much bigger car and also far more luxurious than any previous generation of Golf - it's no longer a funky hot hatch. I think that this metallic red colour particularly suits the car.

It's definitely a Mk7 and not a Mk6.5, or would that be a Mk5.75?

So the polo is taking over as the fun hot hatch while the golf grows older and into retirement...

Are you gonna sell the old one to get a new one?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

My thoughts too , Polo is quite big and probably similar in size to the MK3
My brief views of the Golf make it more of a Sensible Sporty Car for the over 50's
Also its getting too big which is spoiling it i think and too expensive

....I was 58yo when I bought my Mk5 GTI in 2005 and there's no way that I'm becoming a more 'sensible' person

The Mk7 is doubtless a good car but seems to lack that special ingredient. In other words, it lacks sex appeal. We'll see how the Mk7 GTI shapes up in the flesh.

^^^^ I must say, the one you snapped looks particularly underwhelming.

IMO all the VW Golf's of the past have always had an appeal across all age groups but this one, I don't see it. Maybe that's intentional, as mentioned there's the Polo for fun nowadays.

At first glance I thought it was Sunset Red. After a quick look on VW's site, yeah it is. It is a lovely colour. My TR MK5 needs a respray and I have been considering it.

The new MK7 is growing on me...slowly.

On my drive into work today I saw about 8 of these.

It looks okkkkay, however I hope the gti has something a little more standoutish on the road.

Pretty plain I think, and yep every driver I saw was 60+!

Thats a great colour. Shame the GTI doesnt get any decent colours apart from White and Red , wish you could get Viper Green or Rising Blue on the GTI , or the Lime Green and Orange that the Leon comes in , I despise the modern trend from Grey Silver Black monotony
