Golf MK5 TDi 2004: Digital display fading in the heat
« on: April 23, 2013, 02:30:46 am »
Hi,
I have a MK Golf GT TDi. Year: 2004.
I recently purchased the car and have come across a few faults. I have posted a couple already and the advice I have got so far has been great.
I have noticed a few other users, particularly on older Golfs, Passats and Audi's have experienced a similiar fault to this one.
The digital display showing the mileage etc. is fading badly when the car heats up. If I've been driving on the motorway for around an hour, the digital display starts to fade. If the car has been sitting in the sunshine for a day (unlikely with our weather I know), then again, the display starts to fade.
Can anybody give me advice on what may be causing this and how to fix it - what may be involved.

Cheers,

I had the same issue on my midline clocks, when travelling on motorway for around an hour to 3 hours, the mileage part of the clocks will fade.

I think its the clocks themself, because when i had my highline clocks in, they never did it.

new cluster is the fix, ideal chance to upgrade to a highline

> there are a couple TDI of clusters in the for sale section

it is also possible to change the lcd screen, but finding the screen would cost as much as a used cluster

Eddie, don't suppose you are near Glasgow or ever near here on your travels? Or do you know any contacts near Glasgow that could help.
Cheers
