Boot strutts needed. Mine are failing.
« on: May 14, 2013, 08:50:40 pm »
Hopefully with the amount of people that have done the boot popper mod someone can help a Gti member in need.

If anyone has their old gas strutts for the boot lying around would they be willing to donate them to me for beer money?

Mine have started failing and the lid won't quite stay up.

I will pay postage or collect that's not a problem.

Thanks in advance.

Well I had thought about that a while ago.

When I first saw it I thought it would be great but after the initial excitement wore off I thought what's the point?

Is there really a practical advantage?

Plus I park my car in a garage, what of my kids pressed the button (they can mess about with the key)my boot would fly open and smack the wall!

Well I have decided to go for the boot pop mod.

I have been considering putting the car up for sale but its a cheap mode. Picked up the bits today from TPS, about £56 with a bit of discount.

Just need to find someone local that can code it for me.

Anyone in Derbyshire able to help me out with this?

Better keep the keys away from the kids :P

Checkout the VCDS register for someone near you:

I could sort it for you but you would have to come sight seeing in London

Good question! When I had the Font my my Jetta up on stands last weekend while I was doing a bit of 'fettling' I popped the boot and to my surprise it opened all the way up!

Got me thinking about how smart this would be on a regular basis i.e. at my local supermarket posing  :P

I've just fitted the parts today and you can certainly tell the strutts are more powerful.

I wonder if one of the new strutts is faulty though because it isnt a tight fit on the ball joint which means there is a small amount of play.

Might have to take it back to TPS for a replacement.

Hopefully getting it coded tomorrow so it will pop from the remote.
