Lots of wheel spin with DSG launch control

When people use the DSG launch control function, do they find that it smokes the front tyres?  Mine will dial up 3k RPM, but there is loads of wheel spin.  Its running decent tyres, but it’s much better if I only allow it to go to 2.5k

I am assuming stock power - although the car does feel quick compared with my 170 BHP 205 Gti track car (which weighs naff all)

Tyres are continental Conti Sport Contacts

Well I know I dont have that much power :-)

I have always found that 2.5K rpm is a better launch. I think its a pretty simple launch control system so does require some control from the driver to make it work for a quick launch. But depends on grip levels. Maybe on a hot day with good tyres and a good surface such as on a drag strip you might be able to use 3K rpm. Last time i was at santa pod i was increasing the revs each run.

Only if you have poor car control. If you know where your limits and the cars limits are no problem driving without ESP. If you are really wanting to push the car its better with ESP off other wise it will just fight you.

It is a couple of years since I had my Golf now but I don't think you can Engage launch control with ESP on.
As for ESP on the bends I never drove fast enough on the roads for it to get in the way. If you ever go on track do a session or two with ESP on until you get comfortable then switch it off, the difference is amazing! You won't believe how easier it is to drive with it off.   

My current car has adjustable traction control and I have the opposite problem, I can't drive fast enough to bring it in unless it is wet. I think I managed to hear it working once at Rockingham on the final tight turn going into the bowl section.

Modulate your right foot, you do have to turn off ESP or the launch control won't engage.

I found 2500rpm and as TC has said, short shift to 2nd before 5000rpm to maximise traction.

Cool, sounds like I just need to practice with it some more :-)
