what a pain. locking wheel nut advice...

Hi all took my car to have a tyre repaired the other week and all was good untill this mornin! I got up early to drop the kids off at school and thought id then wash the gti. Started washing and noticed that the well trained kwick fit staff that repaired my tyre had scuffed my alloy on there machine wich as you would expect done my head in and to top it all off my locking wheel nut has disapered! So only got 4 bolts in my wheel andnow have to get another set of locking nuts. Went down to kwick fit and they told me that they wouldnt pay for the wheel to be repaired as i ciuld have done it since i had it done and that they would replace my locking wheel nut but not with an oem part!!!! Question is do any of you know of anywhere i could buy some oem locking nuts other than tps? Rang them today and they want £56 for a set!!!

Suppose you could try ebay for a second hand set...

Go OEM. It's worth it.

I inherited a set of McGuard locking nuts when I bought my car. They had been over torqued with a gun. When I got a puncture I couldn't remove the nuts because the key sheared off. In fairness McGuard replaced they key. Free of charge THREE times. In the end I had to get the bolt drilled out and it wrecked my wheel.  

The VW sets are more robust have a shape better able to cope with being over tightened. Not that it should be over tightened, but it can happen in some garages.

I'm sure there are good people working for Kr@pFit, but my experience has never been good.  I always use a local firm who use torque wrenches and brains.


Shadow blue DSG 5 door with leather, sunroof, 18" Monzas, MFSW. 
Full list of mods:  Seat inserts and a VW bottle opener.  Each worth 20bhp.

You are aware that there are as little as eight combinations for the oem locking nuts?

They have lost your locking wheel nuts. They buy you new VW ones without question!

had the same crap from kwik fit once I used them... marked two of my wheels... after fitting the wrong tyres... lucky for me I'd walked the manager round the car to point out there was no marks on the wheels... in the end they forked out to refurb all 4 wheels :happy2: with a minimal contribution from me

go back and try your luck you never know...

i had this problem when i bought my car, so i popped in to my local dealer who said that i might need to buy the whole set which would cover 5 years worth of VW locking nuts (not very secure in my eyes)

but he had a few singular ones lying around and one happened to fit mine so he sold it to me for £10, might be worth popping in to ask  :happy2:
